Since 1998 no licences have been issued by the Home Office for testing cosmetics ingredients and products on animals in the UK. However, elsewhere in the world, cosmetic companies continue to test new concoctions on animals, and these products can then be sold here. Labelling is often deliberately misleading and even products which claim to be ‘not tested on animals’ may not be as cruelty-free as you would hope as although the finished product might not have been tested on animals, the individual ingredients may have been.
